UWB communication is accomplished by transmitting wideband, ultra-short pulses, and receiving those pulses remotely. For high-speed communications, timing and synchronization are important research problems. Rapid synchronization of a receiver to the transmitter is particularly important in networking applications. We have developed a new asynchronous method that is very fast and yet simple to implement. We propose to develop a family of ultra-wide band communication links with instantaneous synchronization and channel equalization capabilities, two of the most difficult tasks in UWB link design.
